Evernote App on iPad not working on campus

Hi, I'm using Evernote (app) on an iPad.  On campus it will not connect - says "Access denied. Access control configuration prevents your request from being allowed..."

I'm logged into the Newman wifi and can access other sites but the Evernote App isn't allowed by the proxy. Is there anything I can do?

I've googled the problem and seen this -
http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/15649-viewing-notes-over-proxy/ but the mobile web solution in Safari also doesn't work for me.

Also this, which doesn't look promising http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/6095-how-to-access-evernote-through-proxy/page__st__20

I've found some more info here https://support.evernote.com/link/portal/16051/16058/Article/1635/Connecting-to-Evernote-through-a-Firewall-or-Proxy-Server

When Evernote attempts to connect to the Internet for syncing purposes, it uses the operating system's default browser Internet settings. The easiest way to check that these settings are configured properly is to visit the following two URLs using Safari on Mac OS X or Internet Explorer on Windows:

"Evernote utilizes TCP ports 80 and 443 for connection to Evernote's web service, so both of these ports need to be accessible by the Evernote application. If you're unable to access either of the URLs mentioned above via web browser, it's unlikely the Evernote desktop application will be able to sync successfully.

If you're unable to sync at your office, it's possible that your employer's IT security policy is disallowing access to services like Evernote. If you're unsure, contact your company's IT department for clarification."

Odd. As far as I've been told TCP via port 80 should be one of the things that's pretty much guaranteed to work through our firewall, so long as the request goes via regular HTTP or HTTPS at least. It's not using some weird protocol instead of those, is it? Last time we had an application that exhibited anomalous connection problems, it turned out to be that.

EDIT: I just noticed the date on this - I suppose this forum doesn't get the greatest amount of traffic, as it was still on "page 1"! Did you ever get it sorted? Not all of those links work any more, and those that do are clear as mud.
(Suppose I can close the other tabs I popped open with even earlier problem reports in them without even reading 'em, then...)
